Dr. Ghia is Project Scientist and Scientific Director of Biobanking and Correlative Sciences at the Center for Novel Therapeutics at the University of California, San Diego. Dr. Ghia’s research has led to seminal discoveries of targetable drivers of cancer stemness and resistance to therapy in chronic lymphocytic leukemia and contributed to the development of novel therapeutics. Dr. Ghia received her Ph.D. and completed a postgraduate specialty residency program in Medical Genetics at Sapienza University, Rome, Italy. For her studies on immunoglobulin genes in chronic lymphocytic leukemia, she was awarded the Blood Cancer Research Fund Postdoctoral Fellowship under the supervision of Dr. Thomas Kipps at Moores Cancer Center, University of California, San Diego. Dr. Ghia’s current research focuses on clinical trial correlative studies, leveraging in-depth analyses of patient samples to identify proteomic and transcriptomic signatures that drive drug resistance and reveal novel cancer cell vulnerabilities.
