Postdoctoral researcher
Institut d'Investigacions Biomèdiques August Pi i Sunyer, Spain
Dr. Duran-Ferrer earned his PhD with honors from the University of Barcelona in 2020, where he investigated the role of epigenetic mechanisms in normal B-cell development and malignant transformation. In recognition of his early career achievements and the impact of his doctoral research, he received the prestigious XXII Pfizer Foundation Award for Scientific Innovation for Young Researchers in 2021. The following year, he was awarded a competitive postdoctoral fellowship from the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC). In 2023, he was selected to participate in the competitive EHA–EMBL/EBI Computational Biology Training in Hematology program, reflecting his growing expertise at the intersection of cancer biology and computational approaches. Later that year, he held a visiting scientist position in the laboratory of Professor Trevor Graham at the Centre for Evolution and Cancer (CEC), Institute of Cancer Research (ICR), London, where he contributed to research on cancer evolution through DNA methylation analysis. Currently, his primary research interest centers on elucidating the origins and evolutionary dynamics of cancer, integrating state-of-the-art technologies and mathematical modeling to generate clinically actionable insights.
Dr. Duran-Ferrer’s work has led to numerous publications in high-impact journals, including Nature Genetics (2015, 2022), Cancer Cell (2016), Nature Medicine (2018, 2022), Nature Cancer (2020), and Nature (2025), as well as multiple presentations at international conferences. He is also a co-inventor of a patent focused on tracking cancer evolution and predicting prognosis via DNA methylation.
