Prof. Dr. med.
Institute of Oncology Research (IOR), Oncology Institute of Southern Switzerland (IOSI)
Bellinzona, Switzerland
Davide Rossi, MD, PhD, serves as a Professor at the Faculty of Biomedicine, Università della Svizzera italiana. He is also the Head of the Laboratory of Experimental Hematology at the Institute of Oncology Research, Deputy Head at the Clinic of Hematology of the Oncology Institute of Southern Switzerland, and oversees the Lymphoid Tumors Program there.
Prof. Rossi has earned national and international recognition as a scientist, particularly in the fields of lymphoma and chronic lymphocytic leukemia, as evidenced by his extensive publication record. He serves as a member of the Scientific Committee of the Leukemia Project Group within the Swiss Group for Clinical Cancer Research (SAKK). Additionally, he acts as the Principal Investigator for institutional and national clinical trials focused on chronic lymphocytic leukemia and lymphoma.
Prof. Rossi focuses on the molecular pathogenesis of B-cell tumours, making significant contributions to the area. His key achievements include: i) discovering several driver mutations in chronic lymphocytic leukaemia and establishing their role as prognostic biomarkers (i.e., NOTCH1, SF3B1, BIRC3); ii) elucidating the molecular underpinnings of high-risk chronic lymphocytic leukaemia, including refractory and transformed forms of the disease; iii) developing prognostic scores for chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (IPS-E); iv) identifying driver genes and genetic subtypes of marginal zone lymphoma that aid in disease classification (i.e., NOTCH2, KLF2); and v) advancing the clinical application of circulating tumour DNA in lymphoma. His discoveries have been integrated into the WHO Classification of Tumours of Haematopoietic and Lymphoid Tissues, clinical guidelines of marginal zone lymphomas and chronic lymphocytic leukaemia, and UpToDate chapters on marginal zone lymphomas and chronic lymphocytic leukaemia.
Prof. Rossi serves as invited member of the International Workshop on Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia. Additionally, he is involved in the Organizing and Program Committees of the International Conference on Malignant Lymphoma.
